State Themes and Projects

Each year our State President chooses a theme and a project for members to participate in throughout their administration.

Lucy Torres, 2024-25, Wappatoo Valley

"Thrive Anywhere" supports Fisher House scholarships for children of military members. 

Roslyn Lackner, 2024-25, Wappatoo Valley

"Hands Across Time" focuses on historical education with funds raised supporting the school program at Newell Pioneer Village.

Charles Martin, 2022-24, Wappatoo Valley

"Courage Through Creativity" supports art therapy for Veterans. Funds raised went to various organizations where art therapy is used in their veteran care. This included the Portland VA Hospital.

Joseph Martin, 2022-23, Wappatoo Valley

"Together, We Soar" is a two part project. The first part is to raise funds for Honor Flight. The second part is to increase membership and engagement in O.S.S.C.A.R.

Alex Rotunno, 2021-22, Winnemucca

"Operation Diaper Bag" raised funds and collected supplies for the VA Hospitals in Oregon. The final dollar amount raised was $1,776.76. 

Trent Odman, 2020-21, Winnemucca

Continued fundraising efforts to sponsor a bench at the SAR Lewis and Clark Chapter's Revolutionary War Memorial. The memorial will contain 13 benches to represent each of the original colonies.

Ricky Price, 2019-20, Winnemucca

"Service Dogs for Veterans" was aimed at raising funds to help offset the cost of the dog and training for Veterans in Oregon. ​​

Gianna Scnurbusch, 2018-19, Lausanne

Focused on replacing the dying fruit trees at Caples House Museum, funds raised helped purchase and plant new trees for the orchard. The orchard at the museum is one of the last heritage orchards in Oregon.

Alyssa Odman, 2017-18, Takelma

Fundraising efforts supported the needed new foundation at Caples House Museum in Columbia City, Oregon. The museum is owned and operated by Oregon State Society Daughters of the American Revolution.

​Jaeden Biehn, 2016-17, William Cannon

Raised funds purchased a large fish tank to be placed in the Oregon Veterans Home in The Dalles, Oregon. 

Jaclyn Schnurbusch, 2015-16, Lausanne

sRaised funds to furnish a room at the WestCare veteran Resource Center and transitional housing. Organization can "adopt" a bedroom at the center. The center has 15 bedrooms, which will house 30 veterans.

Amanda Backus, 2014-15, William Cannon

Zachary Olsen, 2013-14, Takelma

"Remember Our Heros" raised funds to support the The Oregon Fallen War Heroes Memorial so it can continue to be updated every 5 years. It was constructed in Central Point, Oregon to honor all Oregon soldiers that have died while serving our country since Oregon became a state in 1859. 

Jennifer Devin, 2012-13, Lausanne

"Let Freedom Ring" continued to raise funds to sponsor a bench at the SAR Lewis and Clark Chapter's Revolutionary War Memorial. The memorial will contain 13 benches to represent each of the original colonies.

Nick Dolbin, 2011-12, William Cannon

"Birth of American Freedom 1776" raised funds to sponsor a bench at the SAR Lewis and Clark Chapter's Revolutionary War Memorial. The memorial will contain 13 benches to represent each of the original colonies.

Esther Olsen, 2010-11, Takelma

"Strengthening Our Community" supported Chemawa Indian School. Ladybug pins were sold and funds were donated the school. $1500 was raised in pin sales and donations.

"Educating Our Youth" raised money to purchase over 140 books, Faux Paw-Adventures in the Internet, which were placed in schools and libraries across the state. Cat pins allowed for the purchase from ikeepsafe.org, a non-profit who teaches internet safety.

Ashley Heckethorne, 2007-08, William Cannon

$1400 was raised to help preserve and restore the First Lady Inaugural Ball Gowns of Oregon displayed at the DAR Newell House Museum. These gowns were worn by the First Ladies of Oregon at the inauguration of their husbands as Governor of Oregon as well as the gown worn by the only woman governor.

Funding raised supported Chintimini Wildlife Center in Corvallis, Oregon.

Funding raised supported Doernbecher Children's Hospital in Portland, Oregon.

What is C.A.R.?

The Children of the American Revolution (C.A.R.) trains good citizens, develops leaders, and promotes love of the United States of America. Local societies throughout the state promote the projects and theme each year. They are actively involved in community service projects, as well as learn about their American heritage.
